Linux Virtualization Wiki
This wiki is dedicated to documenting the different virtualization technologies available in Linux, including an overview of the way each virtualization technology works, how to get started, where to get involved with development, etc...
Why virtualization?
The why virtualization? section of the site tries to answer a few questions:
- I am a user. I have heard that virtualization is the latest hype, but why would I care about it?
- I work on virtualization software. It is really cool. Exactly what do the users need?
Technology overview
There are many different approaches to virtualizing a system, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The technology overview and technology comparison pages are there to help you figure out which virtualization technology may be more suitable for your situation.
The technologies
There are quite a few different virtualization and containering technologies for Linux, some of them general purpose, some of them more specialized. We would like to describe all of them on this site, and give hints on how to get started with the different technologies.
